COURTEL JENKINS SCOUTING REPORT

COURTEL JENKINS | DT | MIAMI/HOUSTON

Height: 6002 | Weight: 315

Courtel Jenkins is a third-year rotational player who spelled starter Kendrick Norton at 1-techinque in the Canes 4-3 defense before deciding to transfer to Houston prior to the 2017 season. Despite his role as a depth player, Jenkins managed to accrue 54 tackles (7.5 TFLs), 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble in 34 games for Miami and never appearing in a single game for Houston due to sitting out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Jenkins is a shorter player with strong arms and thick base. Jenkins seems rigid in his lateral ability and lacks explosiveness and initial quicks off the snap.

Jenkins is a run plugging hole clogger with a pedestrian first step and limited explosiveness. Jenkins lacks creativity with his hands and refuses to fight with his upper body, simply attempting to bull rush on most plays. Jenkins appears to be going through the motions on the football field and shows little to no motor in pursuit. Despite his size at 320+ pounds, Jenkins is easily moved off his spot and fails to properly anchor and re-direct blocks to his second level. Quite frankly, Jenkins' on-field evaluation is so limited simply because it's been a minute since he's played meaningful football.

Jenkins has a long list of document off-the-field issues throughout his career. In February 2017, Jenkins was dismissed from the Canes football program by Mark Richt following multiple disciplinary incidents throughout his career. In 2016, Richt had suspended Jenkins for a game due to undisciplined play for after-the-whistle personal fouls that hurt the team. Prior to Richt, the 2015 staff sent Jenkins home from the Sun Bowl due to academic reasons. Jenkins does not appear committed to the game of football based on both his on and off-the-field issues and would be lucky to receive an invitation to a rookie minicamp.
